Patients are always patients and you’ll have good and bad ones, that just comes with the job. This past year, management has changed and staff dropped like flies. Management was making budget cuts and short staffing the floors so the nurses were taking 7 and 8 patients and the CNAs were taking 20+ patients. They didn’t care about what they were doing to their staff and they were not helpful in any way shape or form.
Hospitals should regularly monitor hand hygiene practices for everyone interacting with patients, and give feedback to ensure compliance. Hospitals should foster a culture of good hand hygiene, offer training and education, and provide equipment, such as paper towels, soap dispensers, and hand sanitizer.
